Description

Threskiornis aethiopicus
Distribution: Africa, Asia. Introduced: Europe and few other places.
Diet: insects, worms, crustaceans, mollusks, and other invertebrates. Vertebrates can be fish, frogs, reptiles, small mammals, and dead animals. Even eat rubbish!
An ibis that belongs to the Family is called Threskiornithidae. Males and females are similar in plumage.
Reproduction: The ibises will breed once a year. The birds will nest in the trees and will gather in colonies even with other species of wading birds. 1-5 eggs are laid by the female in a stuck nest. Both parents will incubate the eggs and feed the chicks. The juveniles will have a different appearance compared to the adults. They are more grayish in their plumage and blacker on their wings.
Call: Puppy-like yelping noises, but it usually tends to be silent.
NOTE: The bird?s wings are supposed to have blacker and the bill is supposed to be darker.
COOL FACT: The African Sacred Ibis was an important part of the religion of Egypt and was connected to one of their gods called Thoth. (This god has his head as an ibis.) This bird once lived in Egypt, but it is not present anymore.
