Descripción

A jovial little insect species that "spreads the love" wherever it goes. It would hug, but it has no arms... Instead, it goes around 'kissing' trees and plants, piercing the bark with its serrated jaws and sucking out some sap for food. It befriends creatures the same way; apparently in the Hugbugs' social order, piercing an individual's epidermis with sharp mouthparts is seen as a sign of utmost affection. This is not as ridiculous a way to make friends as it seems, however; preliminary analysis of Hugbug saliva shows that it contains a nonaddictive sort of neurotransmitter that spreads happiness and cheer when introduced into the systems of most (but unfortunately not all) species.

Unbeknowst to the poor Hugbug, his little sweet gesture of friendliness works both ways- some species would rather not have their epidermis punctured (and they promptly puncture the Hugbug's epidermis in return), while others warm up immediately to their new insect friends... Accordingly, the well-meaning but sometimes misunderstood little Hugbug has many allies and foes alike.
