I know its convuluted to explain in words, but if you're able to get it you'll be able to see what I mean pretty quickly. If you take my Eisa ships in the editor you can move the right pieces and you'll see how it works

and eventually the stacked pieces will visibly detacth but still be connected, that way you can use the base piece to rotate and move the floating parts into place.

then rotate the base piece, then hold tab and just hover the cursor over the arrows, if you did it right the pieces snap into different places, keep moving and rotating the base piece, rinse and repeat -

And for floating parts, I know the guide you're talking about, but what I do is just a different glitch: If you stack detail pieces on top of each other, and then move the BASE piece around to the other side of the ship to swamp symmetry -

I really don't know how the overcomplexity works. Sometimes if you turn freedom off it will let you, sometimes you can just spam publish until it works, theres no rhyme or reason it seems
