Description

Ölyqops are staunch believers in the idea that pursuit of scientific enlightenment should be the primary goal of all intelligent life, and that all knowledge of technology should be freely available for all.

In their history, although their minds were always exceptionally well suited for technical problem solving and memorizing convoluted series of data, their physical restraints were an obstacle for industrial work. Fortunately the planet they evolved on was a home to various other intelligent species, though none as gifted as ölyqops, so the early ölyqop tribes were able to establish a trade of exchanging technological innovations for manual labor. Once their level of technology rose to the point of mechanical assistance and automation, ölyqops no longer needed to rely on other creatures for their work, and so the pace of their scientific progress skyrocketed.

Through their history of depending on others, it became ingrained in ölyqop culture that the most efficient method of advancing science was teamwork. So despite reaching the point of lacking the need for manual labor, ölyqops continued to support, educate and work with those around them. It is due to this that some of the first universal translators in Benjami?s Galaxy were of ölyqop design, as were certain types of monoliths.

During the early-to-mid Second Age, it seemed that ölyqops were on a path to establishing themselves as a strong foundation for a science-based galactic government. When they invented the Hyper Acceleration engines that made intergalactic travel possible, they came close to cementing that position.

Unfortunately, there were many who were wary of the galaxy growing dependent on the Ölyqop Empire for all its technological needs. This resulted in the Ölyqop Empire being swept up in many conflicts, which rapidly shrank their sphere of technological influence. In many ways their strength was also their weakness, as their principle of free share of technology meant their enemies had all the intel they needed to be successful. But their principles had also landed ölyqops many allies, so these battles never quite could extinguish the spirit of the Ölyqop Empire.

That was, until the MATERUX came and erased ölyqops from the starmap. Historians in the late Second Age remember ölyqops as the unsung heroes who had a pivotal role in ushering Benjami?s Galaxy to its Golden Age, and many fantasize of what could?ve been would they have been able to continue their quest for universal technological enlightenment.
