[Colonist wearing a Desert Survival Suit]
Don?t be fooled by the outfit?s ?traditional? appearance?these survival suits offer more functions than a grox lavatory. From advanced cooling systems to efficient water recycling, these suits have it all.
Even before the Surisin Empire?s ?Great Expansion,? during which surisins spread across Mikhos like locusts on a wheat field, they faced numerous challenges in colonizing new territories. One of the most significant obstacles was their biological inadequacy in dealing with hot, arid climates. As a species that evolved from aquatic creatures and transitioned to land only in the final stages of their evolution, surisins are poorly equipped to handle warm or dry conditions. Their bodies, naturally adapted to temperate, moist environments, were prone to overheating and dehydration in climates outside their comfort zone.
The very first surisin colony to fail (planet Dhali) was not due to external threats like alien invaders or other hostile forces. No, it was the dry desert heat that forced the colonists to abandon their settlement. Over 85% of them were hospitalized with heatstroke before they finally evacuated. This was way before the surisins invented terraforming technology?back when they adapted themselves to their environment rather than transforming the environment to suit their needs. To combat this vulnerability, they began developing survival suits to endure extreme climates.
The "Desert Survival Suit" was specifically designed for arid conditions, offering protection against the searing heat and bone-dry air that posed the greatest threats to surisin physiology. Despite the suits being expensive to produce, they were still more cost-effective than terraforming entire planets to create habitable climates. When the Great Expansion began, and the Surisin Empire raced to colonize worlds at a breakneck pace, survival suits became an essential tool. Terraforming, though now achievable, was costly and time-consuming, making survival suits the ideal solution for surisins seeking to expand rapidly toward the Galactic Core.
The design of the survival suits drew inspiration from the traditional attire of a surisin tribe that once lived on a tropical archipelago of their homeworld. These tribal surisins had adapted to the tropics, and their clothing prioritized protection from the sun?s harmful UV rays while remaining comfortable and functional in the heat.
As the surisins advanced in genetic engineering during the middle phase of their expansion, they developed a gene-therapy program allowing individuals to permanently alter their biology to thrive in hot, dry climates. This program essentially bestowed the benefits of the Desert Survival Suit without the need for the suit itself. Known as the ?Desert-Surisin Program,? it led to the emergence of what many consider a subspecies of surisin:
The ?durisins.?

Love all the thought put behind how surisins adapted beyond the limitations of their biology during their expansion, and how their means improved over time. Now, do these suits come in human-design? Could be handy for hot summers.
