Description
Little is known about this statue, and even less about the intent of the artist. Are the two figures betrothed lovers, and the flowers their wedding gifts? Or are they parents nurturing new life? Are they siblings sharing their lives in a nursery both literal and metaphorical, or is the depiction of two figures attached to one body a representation of the acceptance and love of the self? Are the two lifelong friends who mean the world to each other? Or, perhaps, the ambiguity of the piece is intentional, reflective of the many forms love takes and how all of them are what makes life worth living.
