Description

The new face of the Emperor?s mechanized land legions; the Phalanx II is an all-around powerful combat platform, as it brings a balance of speed, protection and firepower to the battlefield. This type of vehicle lies between an IFV and an MBT as it is capable of transporting a squad of infantrymen as well as going toe to toe with enemy tanks. It was designed specifically to combat a new type of menace, insurgency. The Shimeran Empire has a population growth of roughly 15 % meaning that its borders are in a constant state of expansion. At times diplomatic tension forms with its neighboring nations and the Imperial government acts accordingly to ?sanitize? the situation. Depending on the Empire?s interests at the given moment peace is achieved by negotiation or military action. In the second case the Empire often claims victory in the initial conflict thereby annexing the defiant nation?s worlds and assimilating its people; however these processes take time and in this time rebellious elements often form within the local population. The occupational police keep the situation under control but there are cases where they lack the power to contain the upheaval. Consequentially Imperial legions are stationed to assist, but standard military units are equipped to wage war against a rational opponent not unwieldy mobs and militia fighters. For this reason alone the Phalanx chassis was put back into action. The original Phalanx I was a standard, cheap 7th generation light tank which was among the first to fully implement Shimeran nanotech, this made it particularly resilient against insurgents and asymmetrical warfare in general. The same concept was taken and radically improved in the Phalanx II. The vehicle is modular like most other Imperial machinery sporting a large array of interchangeable components, while there are thousands of possible combinations it is most notable in two variants: a manned variant as shown here and a lightly armored AI driven variant which depends heavily on active protection systems. Many have been deployed in occupied territory where it is still used to great effect; it owes this to an advanced kinetic protection system which deflects larger projectiles, poly-carbonate and Adamantium lattice armor, an active feedback system capable of tracking even suppressed weapons and numerous weapons visible on its turret. It is armed with a double barrel Gauss cannon which fire both shells with a seconds? delay with deadly precision thanks to a multispectral sight next to the main gun. The first is a 120mm shield disrupting, quantum tunneling hypervelocity tungsten spike which delivers pure kinetic power and goes through armor like a knife through butter, the second shell is a shaped plasma charge which penetrates through the same spot as the first round for maximum carnage. The Phalanx also carries a SAM/ATGM system for use against aircraft and distant targets as well as a close in airburst system to liquidate melee threats.

Wicked tank design man. The cannon looks awesome.

The steam series is not so much about practicability - trying to fly an aircraft, let alone a spaceship, on 1850s steam technology is rather futile. I have no clue either how to get such a spaceship into orbit ;)

It looks really great, well designed, i wish i could be as good as you are with tanks.. Also the Phalanx is a formation of the Spartan fighters, that's funny haha.

Cool dual cannon design and, as always impeccable detailing and texturing.

Good work as always, but the square barrel seems a little strange. Still, not a bad build.
