Yeah there would have to be some species that go extinct naturally from competition, not just from natural disasters. Primates driving lemurs almost extinct (except for Madagascar) come to mind.

Maybe thou that can easily be a xenotheropod or diordoscapulid that occupy those niches. I kinda like the idea that I made.
