Description

Aethia psittacula
Diet: piscivore-small plankton-like crustaceans and jellyfish (not common)
Distribution: Alaskan islands and parts of Eastern Russia islands
Breeding: islands Winter: at sea
This bird is small auklet known for a reddish orange upturned bill that gives it a unique look. Winter plumage is not that much different except for smaller and duller red bill while losing part of the white streak behind its eye. Males and females look a like. Juvenile has a darker and smaller bill compared to the adult. Call: musical trill (only used on breeding grounds).
