Description
Archilochus colubris
Diet: nectar, insects, sugar rich tree sap
Distribution: Breeding-E half of NA and extends somewhat NW to Canada. Winter: Mexico, Central America
Ruby-throated Hummingbird is a small, hovering bird that drinks nectar and belongs in the family of Trochilidae. These birds are often seen hovering at hummingbird feeders to drink the sweet sugar water given to fuel their fast-paced lives. Males of this species are very colorful and have a bright red throat. Females and juveniles are duller with a white neck, with some specks of dark green. Males are known for their elaborate mating displays. They will do a dive display to impress the female. The female makes a small cup nest made of special materials (even spider silk) to accommodate for the growing nestlings. She lays two small eggs. She will lone incubate and raise the two chicks all on her own. The male only contributes his genetic information to the next generation.
This was a request and even a suggestion by a few users.
IN REAL LIFE: The male would have a buffy gray on chest, more to be present, beak and feet would be black.
NOTE: This little creation of mine is the 200th creation I have uploaded to spore according to my account!
