Description

[Legacy of Odyssey 3/3]
The knight believed that the god was leaving fragments of himself behind to bring about worse and worse disasters, as a way to create the challenges he sought. It was an outrageous idea, but one the group couldn't dismiss. Ultimately, they decided to keep it quiet for now, and once the next world that was more than likely facing a terrible disaster was restored, they would find the next fragment that would undoubtedly be there, and bring the entire crew to witness it, revealing the dark truth.

The group's predictions turned out to be true, as the next world was experiencing a devastating crisis, and a piece of the core was found at the center of it all. Once the world was saved and the crew gathered, the sourceress and the knight revealed what they had found, shocking everyone. The entire crew then confronted the God of Odyssey aboard their ship, who surprisingly admitted his guilt. He told them about his desire for an eternal, everlasting journey full of activities and adventure, and how he'd done everything in his power to ensure it would be fulfilled. He explained that he simply wanted more and more from the galaxy and would do anything to get it. He was growing "bored" of the same, repeating quests and had started to purposefully leave fragments of his power behind to create more interesting, more perilous challenges. This revelation ignited a storm among the crew, their fury directed squarely at Mikhos. Countless lives had perished, and entire worlds lay in ruins, all because he craved "excitement." Yet, the god merely chuckled in response, dismissing their outrage. To him, the sacrifices were insignificant compared to the thrill of their quest reaching its zenith. He proclaimed himself the architect of their newfound drama?a necessary villain of their grand adventure.

In his hubris, the deity underestimated the crew's loyalty to the mission of the Perpetual Pioneer; the journey, not the captain. They all turned against Mikhos, using the powers granted by the god himself to them to engage in battle. While Mikhos' combat capabilities were weakened, the crew had still a rough time fighting the god, and many fell to his attacks. In the end, only the knight and the sourceress remained standing, their strength almost exhausted. However, Rilixa smirked and told her "god" that she had one last trick up her sleeve. The sourceress had secretly been preparing to destroy the core of the Perpetual Pioneer, the main source of Mikhos' power; as she was certain that without it, its fragments that Mikhos had scattered on worlds he'd visited would cease wreaking havoc. Mikhos begged for her not to do it, pleading that destroying the core would not only mean destroying him but also dispersing all odyssey-aligned might in the galaxy. There would be consequences; the moons he had put back in their axis, the sick he had healed and the beasts he had sealed away, all his acts would be undone. She'd be wiping out everything he and the crew had worked so hard to accomplish. The sourceress' response was cold and simple:
?I know, but at least you'll be gone.?
She proceeded to unleash a massive wave of magic, destroying the core and causing an explosion that engulfed the entire ship. Mikhos' power, his very existence was destroyed, as the pieces of him that had been scattered throughout the galaxy were rendered inert, the energy in them dissipating. The God of Odyssey was no more, and with him gone, the Might of the Odyssey vanished. While some worlds were left intact, others were doomed without the god. Some species and civilizations would perish, but new would arise and take their place in time, and the galaxy would continue its cycles, as it always had and always would.

The divine seat of Odyssey was left empty for a billion years by the rulemakers, until the time was right for someone else to claim it. But this time, the seat would be bestowed upon a mortal, who would not know the burden of divinity.

Fascinating new lore. The god Mikhos essentially became a space captain, but one that created his adventures himself. I really like the concept. The seat of Odyssey being assigned to a mortal sounds rather intriguing as well.
