Description

Lycarsins are a species of Artisans [new archetype following the Philosophy of Creativity] from planet Garwall. Creative and remarkably skillful artificers, the Lycarsin Empire, while small in scale, is well respected for the quality of their handiwork across the cosmic expanse. They have a somewhat turbulent history, filled mostly by civil wars and periods of decadent chaos as different tribes battled for dominance. But after being welcomed into the galactic society by the Surisin Omni-Empire that discovered the race few years after proclaiming themselves the rulers of the galaxy, lycarsins began putting their ancient grievances and animosities aside in favor of being accepted into the galactic community, and enjoy being a part of a larger community than their homeworld and the few close by starsystems they had discovered before.

Aside from their handiness and artistry, their most distinctive ability is that all lycarsins are capable of momentarily transforming into larger, stronger, faster, and more durable form [lycari] that grants them a physical advantage over the majority of species in Miikka64's galaxy. But they're not capable of sustaining it for long, and once in this form, they become incredibly aggressive and unable to think clearly, making use of lycarsins as "super-soldiers" difficult and plain dangerous, even to those they fight alongside with. In bloodrage, they are known to disregard friend or foe and just wreak havoc around them until the transformation is worn off, after which they suffer an incredible fatigue and are prone to having memory lapses regarding their recent actions.

While lycarsins can decide when to turn into their lycari-form, they are not immune to doing so accidentally, such during a sudden increase of emotions, especially anger or fear, or during a fight to the death. Also, while it hasn't been confirmed, it is speculated that the position of their homeworld's moon ["Eye of Arapax"] might have something to do with how quickly lycarsins can transform or how strong they become in their lycari-form. In the old myths of their homeworld, it is believed that during the once-in-a-millennia occurrence of a crimson moon eclipse, all lycarsins of Garwall involuntarily transform into lycari for the duration of the eclipse, killing and feasting upon their fellow kin, and continue to do so until the moon eclipse ends.

What causes this transformation is "unclear" to the scholars and the general public alike, though the lycarsins themselves say the transformation is a curse ? an affliction cast upon them by the "God of Predators," Arapax, whose ways they've slowly forgotten over the ages, and their "bloodrage" is meant to remind them of the old ways when they still used their hands to rip prey apart rather than design pottery. But since the majority of the galaxy doesn't (want to) believe in supernatural powers or deities, the "cause" for their ability remains shrouded in mystery.

[Lycarsins are based somewhat on the original idea behind Werusins. The original intention (I think, I wasn't exactly known for being consistent with 'lore' if you could even call it that back in the day) was that they were Surisins turned "evil" by something called karma. I later changed that idea in favor of making them followers of the God of War Weratorn, but now I was thinking the idea of having a lycanthropic alien species could be kind of... Neat.]

What an interesting species. Having a werewolf-like species also be just a cool bunch of artists is a fun twist on the concept. Their origin sounds interesting as well, both the lore origin and the meta origin. It is very neat indeed!
