The biological equivalent of the Convair YB-60, a prototype bomber.
Length: 171 ft (52 m)
Wingspan: 206 ft (63 m)
This bomber was the all jet (8) and swept-winged version of the Convair B-36 Peacemaker. This aircraft was quite different in design and placed with a new number. Still this aircraft contained a good amount of similar parts to the B-36.
This prototype bomber went against Boeing?s YB-B2. It also had swept wings and all jet engines (8). Both were going for a contract for the Air Force. The YB-60 was cheaper and larger cargo bay. The YB-36 lost. The YB-52 was more adaptable and faster. This bomber became the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, which is still flying today!
Only one complete YB-60 was created, though another prototype was in the works. Both aircraft were scrapped, kind of a shame this aircraft wasn?t preserved?.
