Description
The Yonwyn are massive insectoid creatures that live deep within the forests. Despite their size, they do not move with grace and ease. Their inimidating size and appearance are meant to turn hunters and predators away. They are, in fact, rather docile and will only kill for food or if threatened. But given the reach of their front claws, nobody really messes with them. For reasons unexplained, they can feed off ultraviolet rays when their bodies have gone without for food for long periods of time. It allows them to maintain a potentially long lifespan. There are issues, however. They're lanky size and slow movement can cause joint pain and even injuries. It is not uncommon to find a Yonwyn lying on the ground with a broken leg. It will either succumb to a hunter or predator or its fellow Yonwyn will sacrfice it and bury it beneath the ground as if to return it to the planet. Sometimes, though a Yonwyn can be injured with no one around. Because of days without food and an injury on top of it, their bodies will continually absorb UV rays for nourishment. It causes a neverending cycle of pain and grief. It cannot self-sacrifice due to limited mobility. It can only hope someone or something comes along to do the deed. Its mind is ready to move on but its body will not allow it. Usually the mind will collapse long before the body follows. However, the consciousness that bridges the two will remain until the last few moments.
