Have you considered using another saucer, scaling it down a bit, attaching engines to THAT part and then 'submerging' it inside the main saucer body?

Working on it, the engines are a nightmare since they refuse to intersect properly with the hull and I can't get the shapes right. Maybe after I've slept on it...
