If you type in the description from the spore web site you can make it longer.

There is an option in the menu to put the game to "buddy" content only, though if you do you dont get spore cast stuff. I tried it but i didnt like not getting spore cast stuff.

PS: the spaceship creator allow more pieces and so more complex mechs. as i'll be using the military land creator i won't be able to do mechs as complex as the space ones.
