They served a large variety of roles, including system patrol, reconnaissance, capital ship escort, and even as a VIP transport. Corvettes were often configured with special cabins for this final role. Those corvettes that served on border patrols near the edge of Terran star systems could be configured to last two or three years without the need to return to base for resupply. Ventures were among the smallest warships in the Terran fleet, but they served their purpose well and had become a trademark of the Terran Confederation's arsenal. The Venture typically carried a crew of nine men. These included the Captain, First/Helm Officer, Sentry, Astrogator, Damage Control Officer, and three gunners. An engineer, positioned amidship, rounded out the crew. Owing to their small size and general similarity to bombers, corvettes were often commanded by personnel from the Space Forces rather than Naval officers. Ventures were normally armed with two large laser cannons, two laser turrets, and two missile launchers. More heavily armed versions existed, both adding antimatter torpedoes and a third turret.The Venture saw action in the Vega Sector, the Enigma Sector, the Battle of Vukar Tag, and the Battle of Kilrah, among many other fleet actions. Notable Venture-class corvettes include the TCS John Bunyan and TCS Johnny Greene, which helped perform the initial reconaissance of Vukar Tag, and the TCS Marciano, which was one of the first responders to the Goddard disaster. The Ventures continued to serve the Confederation faithfully up until at least 2669. They may have been retired from frontline service by the year 2681, given the massive overhaul of the obsolete Confederation Space Navy that took place after 2669.
