Description

Beginning construction in 1966, both WTC 1 (with antenna) and 2 (without) stood for at least 28 years after their completion until both were brought down in terrorist attacks on US soil on September 11, 2001. Both towers served as an icon not only for Amerca but also for many nations across the world. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
WTC 1 and 2 were approximately the same height at the roof, WTC 1 coming in at 1,368 ft (417 m) and WTC 2 at 1,362 ft (415 m). However, with the radio tower, WTC 1 came in at a height of 1,727 ft (526.3 m) and - alongside its southern counterpart - was the tallest building in the world, succeeding the Empire State Building and preceding the Sears Tower. 5 other buildings stood around the 16 acre plot of land: a hotel -WTC 3; three low-rise buildings - WTC 4, 5, and 6; and an office building - WTC 7. \\\\
After the September 11 attacks, cleanup and recovery crews began to collect the debris at Ground Zero. From November 2001 to January 2004, designs were selected by the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation which would occupy the plaza at Ground Zero; the final designs were of a memorial - "Reflecting Absence" by Michael Arad and Peter Walker - and a new building - One World Trade Center, formerly known as the "Freedom Tower," part of the master plan of the site by Daniel Libeskind. Beginning in March of 2006, the last of the debris was cleared from the site so that the groundbreaking for One World Trade Center could be underway. At present, the estimated time of completion of the new complex in the early summer or winter of 2013, with the grand opening occurring in that year or the next (based on completion). \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
Final note: I give much credit to jamesgelfand for allowing me to "imitate" his building design. To see many great works of Spore architecture, I recommend him to anyone who seeks a refreshing Spore take on everyday buildings. --------------------------------------------------------------------
I would like to end with a disclaimer: I don't wish anyone to take offense at this; it was clearly not my intent. Please excuse any ignorance on my part if that is the case, but being a fellow American and a fellow human, I respect everyone who has been affected by this tragic event.

Saying "Nice building, R+" just doesnt feel right. I respect your commemoration more than I respect the creation, which isnt meant to be an insult. I shall remember 9 11 for a long long time
