Description

Count Cornelius Verderf, is a wealthy trader of East Indian spices, silks, coffees and other precious commodities in the Indonesian Archipeligo. On his watch fob you will see a shrunken head, a special trophy request he received as a "gift" from Rangda of Bali, Captain of the pirate ship, The Orca. This is no souvenir shrunken head; it is the head of Count Verderf's chief trade rival. The Orca's crew of headhunting pirates captured his loaded cargo ship and took the heads of all aboard. Count Verderf had tipped off Capt. Rangda of the ship's rich cargo, port and estimated departure date. The Count asked for no share of the cargo in return for this tip; except this shrunken head and a promise from Capt. Rangda not to attack any of his cargo ships. This arrangement between Capt. Rangda and Count Verderf proved to be very profitable to both, as The Orca kept the prizes (and silenced any witnesses) while the Count eliminated his competition for the valuable trade goods. There was no shortage of avarice in the attempt by countries and business ventures to control trading in the vast areas of the East Indies, Chiana, India and Indonesia. Though there were many independent pirates all over the world, many countries and large companies authorized "privateers" to attack their rivals. Several famous explorers were also privateers: Sir Francis Drake and Sir Henry Morgan are among the most notable. There have been pirates as far back in the world's history as the written and verbal records go and it continues into the present. As long as there be treasure, a pirate be to seek it.
