Description

"There are references to a Haunter of the Dark awaked by gazing into the Shining Trapezohedron, and insane conjectures about the black gulfs from which it was called. The being is spoken of as holding all knowledge, and demanding monstrous sacrifices. A very remarkable crystal of some sort, or an artificial object of carved and highly polished mineral matter?transparent, with half-formed worlds of wonder within. When stared at, the onlooker begins to imagine alternate realities of forgotten horrors. The Shining Trapezohedron was subsequently brought to earth at one time but lost from the Old Ones, aeons later, the first human beings of Lemuria peered into its depths. It ended up in Atlantis, sunk beneath the waves. Eventually, The Black Pharaoh, Nephren-Ka, acquired it and built a windowless crypt around it, using it for unnamable rites which ultimately led to his death and the banishment of his name from all records and monuments.The stone is kept in a yellowish "metal box of peculiarly asymmetrical form" covered with odd bas-reliefs?figurines (which) were of a monstrous and utterly alien kind; depicting entities which, though seemingly alive, resembled no known life-form ever evolved on this planet.
