They are having problems with their servers lately and shut them down for (I think they call it) maintenance. Maybe the bug in the search has got to do something with that.

Oh, I just tested the Search function with searchterms, that were successful only weeks ago. It didn't work for me today, too.

I also used the in-game search function of Spore, although this has been very long time ago. But back then this also worked for me.

Well, if you are talking about the Sporepedia search. I've used it already and had quite good success to find what I searched for.
