People just did not read the fine print.

The Statoclasm energy company was the largest of its kind on the Planet Erubyan.

By Didzo

They had cut so deep into the Planet that energy sources were over tapped and running dry. If no new energy was harnessed, then the civilized population of Erubyan will slowly die out.

By Didzo

After years of planning, they came out with a plan so enticing that no back up plan was developed.

They devised that the best source of energy would have to come from the people themselves.

By Didzo

So they created these suits that harness the energy from the body. The energy provided from one person was worth more than 500lbs of coal. The only drawbacks were of ethics and morality.

By Didzo

With enough propoganda and persuasion, as many as 13% of the population in Erubyan had volunteered. They were enamoured by helping to prolong their society and living a much longer life expectancy than normal.

By Didzo

However, most found themselves plugged into outlets for weeks at a time. The only time they moved was when they had to increase circulation in their body to generate more energy for inevitable output.

By Didzo

The complex system harnessed energy from these suits in such a way that most of the time they were remote controlled by plant workers.

By Didzo

Energy output from these individuals were unique and had to be manipulated and carried through the grid in a way that was seamless and clean.

By Didzo

Some did end up doing more productive things, though such as being maintenance bots and meter maids. Eventually the bot designed evolved and they were used as slaves.

As the investors of the initial system got richer and richer, the poor became easily identifable and were automatically thrust into this project. You could Erubyan's lights from its moon but not many were around to see them.
