Unlike most games, Spore doesn't indulge a player with instant gratification as much as other games in terms of making adventures. The joy really comes upon their completion weeks later - and hopefully the comments that follow.

It is quite difficult to get motivation for Spore nowadays, especially when you know that only a small amount of people will ever play your adventure (although Deleted didn't really have that problem xD)

Looks like some weird control mechanism. The second one looks like venting or something, and the first one like a heating coil or whatever.
