Description

Terrestrial life was a mistake for their payer ancestors. Upon leaving the tidepool, the payers never rolled much farther than the shore and spent tens of thousands of years eating washed-up seaweed. Their natural buoyancy was among their only useful traits, as rising tides became a persistent occurrence. Millions of years of mutations and rampant natural selection later, the most thriving offshoot of the payer species now sails across the waves, swarming kelp clusters and filtering phytoplankton. Excess gas produced by digestion is stored in a specialized gas sac located below its dorsal fin and expelled for emergency propulsion. They still remain near the bottom of the food chain, but seem perfectly content with their place in the ecosystem.

The detailed description and that fresh take on the body structure (also the fact that pair is now horizontal?!) make this a perfect contender in the event!

Very evocative description, love the parts usage for the face and the way you've created that bulbous body and the gas sac!
