Description

"Sangy?n" oluks are not a subspecies of oluks but rather the designation given to oluks who live in the Sangy? Quadrant of the Inabaal Sector. Biologically, they barely (if at all) differ from the rest of their species. The distinction is mainly psychological: whereas 'ordinary' oluks are known for their contentment with simple lifestyles centered entirely on eating, working, and sleeping, the Sangy?n oluks no longer find pleasure in their routines.

Oluks were the first alien empire to colonize the Sangy? Quadrant?not for its considerable natural resources, which would only later attract corporate development, but for its distinctive miniature tree-like organisms that became known as "Keshin Sprigs," which they cultivated with exceptional care. In doing so, they became the first oluks to deviate from the species' traditional "holy trinity" of work, eat, and sleep by adding a fourth practice to their modest lives: "Senyaku" (meaning 'the patient cultivation of life through restraint' in Inabaalian dialect).

Having been overworked and practically enslaved by the myriad of corporations exploiting the Sector's rich natural resources, the Sangy?n oluks are nearly the opposite of their 'traditional' counterparts: they no longer find pleasure in working or eating, sleep little, and are widely regarded as depressed and withdrawn. Through a mix of clever and not-so-subtle corporate propaganda, they are conditioned from birth to believe that the only way for them to achieve true happiness and fulfillment is to work as hard as possible and be 'glad' for the opportunity to be employed by a corporation.

Because they are almost exclusively employed in low-level positions with little chance of advancement, many Sangy?n oluks spend their entire lives in quiet despair. Their meager wages afford only occasional access to small comforts, chief among them gardening accessories for their "Pocketwoods"?a pale echo of Senyaku in their lives, renamed by corporate marketing departments as a more "consumer-friendly" term for the Keshin Sprigs that once brought the older generations purpose and tranquility.

During the latter half of the Surisin Omni-Empire's rule over the galaxy of Mikhos, under Omni-Emperor Scifi Wells, corporate control over the Sangy? Quadrant briefly loosened?only to tighten again following the rise of the UGR. Having sampled a taste of liberty, the Sangy?n oluks and other exploited species have since rioted intermittently against their corporate overlords.
Though these uprisings have yet to significantly weaken their dominance, many remain hopeful that one day their labor will be fairly rewarded rather than heartlessly expected.
