D-52 heavy strike craft have a long history in the service of Galbatron's corporate security arm.

Galbatron was in the early stages of a war with another aerospace corporation. They needed a ship that was fast, long-ranged, and had weapons capable of knocking space stations and capital ships out of action. None of their current ships had these capabilities, so engineers set to work. The resulting ship was (and still is) a siege combat juggernaut that has seen use all across the universe.

The Hornet's structure is composed of sheets of super-tensile nanotubes coated in a honeycomb of beryllium metal. This gives it both incredible strength and amazing lightness. This makes the 300 meter long craft capable of maneuvers typically associated with fighters. The design is famous for its ability to suffer massive structural damage yet still be capable of returning to base with its crew. The 'Wings' are completely solid; this allows them to support the weight and recoil of the craft's massive cannons.

The Hornet carries twin railgun turret batteries. At 5 barrels each, they are capable of awesome devastation; The heavy, needle-like projectiles they fire perforate and dismantle most any structure that can be found in space. While extremely powerful, their slewing mechanisms are not very fast, limiting their use to slow or stationary targets.

For self-defense, the Hornet's thin outer armor is supplemented by a heavy duty triple-layer shielding system. This is perhaps the main reason for the design's survivability; The shield array is aerostatic (impermeable to air), and can actually hold the ship together for a short period of time.--
