Description

Micheal awoke face-down on his floor. With a groan, he got up, took a shower, and cleaned last night?s grit out of his eyes. He took a long look at himself in the mirror. Wild brown eyes, a mane of hair straight out of 1960?s Old Earth, and a lopsided mouth were reflected back at him. Micheal shook his head and grunted. He was apparently atrocious to human women, but females from other species found him attractive for some reason. He must?ve looked like a predator, which could have explained the latter. At least, it explained the drunken Dracchus woman that hit on him last night. Dressing himself in his workplace?s uniform, Micheal drearily got ready for work. It was a common misconception that Black Opsmen lived lavishly: Outside of duty, people like Micheal lived ordinary, boring lives, and Micheal?s apartment in Square Six was the epitome of boring. With a sigh, he checked his ComMachine messages, a crucial part of his morning routine. A few advertisements, an invitation from his Eresleite friend and fellow Opsmen Jikael to join her harem, a job offer for LightningMart- ?Oh, hello.? Micheal?s eyes were greeted by a message from Combine High Command. The message was live, meaning whoever sent it was still on the other end. Micheal activated his portable holoprojector, expecting to see a secretary or, worse yet, Admiral Vho?Phiraid. Micheal nearly passed out when the sender revealed himself. ?Hello, Mr. Bergen.? Even in a holo-display, the Ascendant Sovereign was terrifying. A mechanical body clad in blade-like armor, a blood-red cape, a visor-eye that ?if looks could kill- might have wiped out the universe, and a night-black zweihandler at his side, apparently embedded in the ground. Micheal hastily dropped to a knee before the Combine?s supreme leader. ?Your Excellency, what brings you to my home?? The machine god in the display half-shut his visor as if it were a real eye, creating an illusion of impercptible emotion. ?I have a job for you, and I demand your cooperation.? Micheal gulped. ?This is a Code Red assignment. As such, even I may only speak of the location, and not the assignment itself. That will be handled on-site by your CO, Evelyn.? Micheal nearly fainted. Code Red? That was as heavy as it got. ?Anything for the people.? The Ascendant furrowed his visor in an imitation of a smile at the sound of the Black Ops mantra. ?Good. At 6:00 PM Galactic Time tomorrow, you need to be at the Outer Rim Weapons Expo on the planet Codon. That is all I can tell you. Is this a problem Mr. Bergen?? The machine?s voice was like a chorus of metal angels, and chilled Micheal to the core. Nonetheless, he saluted his leader and answered, ?Not at all.? The Ascendant Sovereign simply nodded, and the display shut off. Micheal immediately prepared his armor, oblivious to the coming storm.
