Description

Without an inkling of mercy, the Xadari opened fire on the Opsmen. One of Kasia?s VTOL wings was sheared off as she dove for cover, and Micheal nearly suffered a fatal wound to the chest as he covered Kasia with sporadic fire, the exotic bullets just barely nicking his dark skin. Zagref was the first to land a solid hit: Materializing from the shadows, he twirled through the air ?an energy crescent blade at the end of each limb- and tore one of the more careless Xadari to pieces so utterly that it ceased forever. Stunned, the undead closest to their companion unleashed a massive volley of fire on the Zytrian. After all; they weren?t used to losing one of their own. Zagref nearly died right then, but Evelyn dove in front of him and used her synthetic body to shield the wounded shadow warrior. Cursing and thanking her, Zagref melded back into the shadows, hoping to score another kill. Convinced that her subordinate was safe, the metal wolf snarled and dove at the three Xadari that had riddled her once sleek armor with holes. Tearing one Xadari in half ?despite that the zombie would simply extend tendrils between its two halves and regenerate momentarily- with her claws, Evelyn fired her sniper cannon into the abomination closest to her. Not even the immortality of the Xadari could save him, and he let out a brief scream before exploding in a cloud of metal and red mist. However, Evelyn had left herself open to the third Xadari ?as well as the one who had already regenerated- and two more had since noticed that somehow, two of their own had finally perished, prompting them all to unload several clips at the synthetic, shattering large portions of her chassis. Nearly crippled, Evelyn was forced to bound to cover, where Kasia was busy showering the sentient undead with a hailstorm of bullets. Yet no matter how much destruction the Infinite Repeater spewed, the Xadari it maimed always managed to regenerate on the spot and return fire. Already the female had suffered serious wounds to the chest and left arm. Her cover proving useless, Kasia snarled and jumped at the two Xadari pinning her down, managing to punch the neural core straight out the back of one?s head. However, its companion delivered a sharp kick to Kasia?s side, letting out a hellish laugh at the sound of her ribs shattering. Before it could administer a death blow with its energy blade, a sharp spike exploded through the zombie?s chest before gutting it vertically. Micheal fired a surprisingly lethal shot into another Xadari that accidentally impaled itself on its dead comrade?s bayonet as it had tried to ambush him, but before Micheal could help his wounded friend a Xadari marksman shot a hole through his arm, shattering the shoulder and forcing him to drop his weapon and leaving him armed only with a bayonet. Cursing, he used his own body as a shield as he rushed Kasia to cover. Meanwhile, Jikael struggled to land a single shot on the Xadari as their own snipers harassed her. Evelyn tried her best to assist her, but nonetheless Jikael suffered a serious wound to her right leg that rendered her nearly lame. Though they had killed many of the Xadari, their endurance was waning. Thankfully the Xadari seemed to run out of ammo all at once, and as they were forced to reload the wounded Opsmen converged behind a wall. Mercifully, the nanites that Zagref provided healed most of their wounds, and the newly determined soldiers emerged from cover, guns blazing? into the shadow of Appolyn. None had noticed that, during the fight, the elderly female leader had slunk out of her metal exoskeleton and melded with the state-of-the-art machine. The quickly mutating mecha bore down on them, piercing them with its gaze. ?You lose.? the female sang, ?Submit to us and embrace death, and know perfection.? Kasia spat blood at the machine. ?I am enough of a monster already.? The group mirrored her resolve, and against innumerable odds they fought back.
