Description

The elected leader of the United We, a small and lesser known multispecies empire in Benjami?s Galaxy during the Second Age. Though the term ?empire? is generally used for any nation despite their form of government as a quirk of the universal translators, the United We abhor the term, and are quick to bring war to any who would insult them as such.

The United We are a ?perfect democracy?, as they refer to themselves. None in their nation have rights that another does not. Those who seek to shake this foundational principle, are swiftly put upon a trial, their fate to be voted on by the masses. Very few survive the ordeal.

As this brief description of them might hint at, the United We are quite fanatic to their way of life, though their fervour stems not from religion as it does with many others, but of idealism. This makes them difficult to deal with to outsiders, as they always judge others by their own standards. The United We see anyone in the Finnverse who attempt to establish or maintain an unequal status quo as evil, and they have been known to undertake crusades to bring these offending subjects to trial.

The position of the Servant is chosen in an election of all citizens of the United We. The candidacy position isn?t applied for, each citizen is automatically eligible, and as consequence, forced to Serve should they be voted. The Servant holds ultimate power of the United We, which may at first seem at odds with the foundational principle of equality, but makes more sense once you learn that to be chosen to Serve, one must have 100% of the vote. The Servant literally serves as the will of the United We. Not above them, not under them. As them.

How the United We manage this ?not-empire? of theirs is a bit of a mystery to outsiders. To achieve such social cohesion to ever be able to vote a single citizen as a leader should be more than difficult, especially in a multispecies culture that doesn?t allow for propaganda as one citizen having the right to influence others would be seen as unequal. Yet they somehow manage. Some have theorised there being some sort of a hivemind or a brain network at work, that each citizen is connected by some sort of device or mutation. Others claim that magic, perhaps even that of the dark nature might be involved. Indeed, planets inhabited by the United We have been observed to resonate in a unique ultraenergetic pattern. That said, not much has been able to be confirmed. Those who remain near their colonies too long, are either converted or convicted.

Whatever their means are, they can be rather fearsome. Stories say that when the United We take to war, those who face them on the battlefield are not killed in the traditional way. The United We send no soldiers, as one having the right of life or death over another would be unequal. Instead, they send in only the Jury. The battlefields serve as a public court, one where their opponents are judged by the masses, and if found guilty, made to build their own gallows to hang themselves on. Metaphorically speaking of course, as the method of execution varies depending on characteristics of the species. Interestingly enough, the guilty never seem to fight back, and willingly dig their own graves. Often literally. Battlefields left behind by the United We have no craters or fallout, only neat rows of graves within pristine cities.

The United We remain a small and isolationist interstellar nation, usually not more than a few solar systems big, and thus have not made much waves in the intergalactic community. The only times they become a concern is whenever they decide on a new Servant, as that is often when a crusade is soon to follow. As to who they pick as their target, it is tough to predict, for they have declared an eternal and unyielding war on all the Empires of the universe, because ?to be an Empire is to be inherently unequal.?

That universal translator is quite a quirky gadget indeed. And, a multispecies (non-)empire that uses some "mystical" form of mind control instead of armaments is as fascinating as it is terrifying. I can see them loathing Surisins very, very much.
