The second ancient tale the Grand Library of Locaria investigated in their quest to find the origin of the Benjami?s Galaxy?s name was one of Saint Anja.

Thousands of years after the dissipation of the Itinerant, the galaxy was teeming with life again. Not in great amounts, as the Undead King, reigning over the galaxy on the corpse of a dead being, culled the populations according to his whims. In addition, the King imposed a tax, not of money or resources, but of the dead, a tribute that all living had to pay to his Undead Kingdom. But despite all that, there was life, and the galaxy was at peace.

But some could not accept servitude to an undead abomination. Anja was one among them.

A gifted artificer, Anja sought to end the rule of the Undead King, as revenge for the ones she cared about being made to serve as tribute to the King?s armies. But she believed she alone wasn?t enough. She needed the help of someone more powerful. Eventually her research and studies revealed the existence of someone who could help. She discovered a path across the galaxy, and set out to follow it.

The path brought her to the Prophet.

The Prophet spoke of a way to bring ruin to the Undead Kingdom, but that the price of freedom would be steep. Only Anja, smart as she was, could bring out that which was most Loathsome, and put an end to the age of undeath.

Thus, with the forbidden knowledge planted in her mind, Anja set out to work. She went on to build resistance against the King, constructing large war machines to convince more people to join her side. Her following grew to multiple stars. Stars, which had been chosen in advance. Stars that, when the time came, would form a pattern, a ritual array that would tear the walls of reality apart.

Indeed, when the time came, Anja initiated the ritual. Her machines, ones supposed to be used in war, turned into harvesters of souls. To summon the Loathsome, one must become loathsome.

Many lives were sacrificed to bring forth the loathed monstrosity. And the monster did as the Prophet had foretold, it brought war upon the Undead King.

But when it was all said and done, Anja realised the prize she had paid. Lives of innocents, traded for peace. Had the Undead King not done the same? Tribute for continued peace?

Even worse, peace was no more on the table. The Undead King had disappeared in the fight against the Loathsome, and now there was a new threat to the galaxy, one who would not be sated by mere tributes.

Anja knew her actions could not be redeemed, but that would not stop her from mitigating as much damage from her actions as possible. Once again, she set out to build a resistance.

Needless to say, the people were wary of her. But Anja continued anyway. She built machines, robots, harvesters not of souls, but stars. All these wonders, she used to protect the people from the Loathsome Legions.

Eventually people joined her side, never forgiving her, but still uniting in the face of a common threat. With their combined resources and skills, the Starlight Defense was formed, a galaxy banded together to fight for survival.

After centuries of stars being snuffed out for ammunition, the final battle against the beast commenced. It had surrounded the main battlestation of the Starlight Defence with its legions. Anja, in charge of the station, ordered her people to escape. There was an ultimate weapon on board, one that would only require one soul to activate. But whoever remained behind, would not have time to escape its effect.

The Loathsome Legions, led by the monster itself, closed in on the battlestation, in hopes of squashing the resistance. But aboard, there was only Anja.

In a moment, a thousand stars flared in supernova, and the Loathsome was no more.

With no more tyrant to rule over the galaxy, the people were finally free. Though her sacrifice for this freedom earned her the title of Saint, her crimes would never be forgiven.

Thus ends the tale of the Loathsome Saint.
