Description

The FF800, assigned reporting name ?Longbolt? by the Zir, is a second-generation Finbari starfighter. It served as the FSF?s primary space superiority platform from its inception up until the midpoint of the Celestial War.

In Anean fighter chronology, second-generation aerospace fighters are defined as those which came after the penultimate fighters of the previous Era. Simple and streamlined in design, these second-generation machines took closely after the form and shape of such titans as the Crathervan Empire?s SLX-1. Contemporary advances in electronics, propulsion and materials technology were not used to achieve superior performance for the same cost, but rather to pursue equivalent performance for much cheaper prices.

Naturally the Finbari, the de-facto axis of galactic politics and power, sought to maintain their stellar force, such that it would be capable enough to keep them at the forefront of an increasingly uncertain galaxy. The 34th century saw a wave of cynical reform in all corners of Finbari culture, caused in large part by the enigmatic Tzekleth emergence and the political fallout which ensued shortly thereafter. Gannodist reformers took over much of the Finbari top brass, demanding that the Space Force be totally revamped and modernized to deal with emerging threats.

One key element of their modernization demands was the development of a new mainstay aerospace fighter to succeed the FF420. While the FF420 was a dominant fighter at the time of its introduction, the Gannodists believed that a successor would have to be more ambitious with its performance targets in order to counter the Zir?s rapid technological advancement. Believing that the Finbari?s historic close relations with the Zir were a ?fatal mistake?, they urged contractors to develop all the craft?s components within local space, and also encouraged military planners to keep the whole project under close wraps.

The result of such efforts was the sleek and shiny FF800, the first non-Crathervan fightercraft to equal the overall performance of the original SLX-1. Though the craft?s development took so long, such that it outlived the period of nationalist hysteria and Tzekleth fearmongering, most were very pleased with the resulting product. The people loved it, the pilots loved it more, and the craft quickly became a national icon.

What makes the FF800 so competent is its simple layout and prodigious flight characteristics. While modeled closely after the New Crathervan?s SLX-1 bis, the Finbari craft ditches the extra engine and bulky ramjet hybrid propulsion for a single fusion torch which works both in space and in the atmosphere. The result is that the FF800 weighs much less and therefore needs less thrust to move about. Of course, achieving such performance from a simple layout was only possible thanks to the hard work of those involved in development, who pioneered many new technologies and ensured that the craft?s powerful engine wouldn?t melt its spaceframe from the sheer heat output.

FF800s would serve as the mainline fighters of the Finbari Space Force during the first decade of the Celestial War. During this time, the CELL cockpits of most light craft, including the FF800, would be replaced with simple transparent metal cockpits. The model shown here is one equipped with a transparent cockpit.

Nice simplistic design, I always overcomplicate things I make

I am definitely going for a cold war, soviet aesthetic. Need to make the tanks feel more "alien" though, they're a bit too grounded. Although thanks the compliments of course

By Ackoli

The complexity meter butchered that tank sadly. I had to sacrifice so much detail from the turret and body.

Really well done!

lord dababy ambatukam the third would be far scarier than what is actually in the Box tbh

Re: Lateral Thrusters: I learned something new today.

Thank you @T_B! Those bolted panels are actually RCS ports, like those on the Viper from BSG

Further, the rear thruster design is unique and interesting. I also like the use of the small handle parts to create the bolted panels. R in your journey to MPN 1! #3 as of writing.

An aggressive, aerodynamic design, with beautiful use of curvature and symmetry. The use of oval shapes along the main fuselage is elegant.
