Description

Finbari Rapid Fire Vehicles are a kind of armored fighting vehicle designed to provide direct fire support to mechanized infantry. In human terms, an RFV is something inbetween a light tank and an IFV, sacrificing some of the IFV?s versatility for superior mobility, firepower and armor.

The Gadetz is the current mainstay RFV of the Finbari?s ground forces. The tank is named after a species of beetle-like insects from the Finbari?s former homeworld, known for their incredible speed, unusual size and potent poison. Just like its namesake, the Gadetz hits fast and hits hard, thanks to a combination of three key design features:

The first is the insistence upon a 10-wheel treadless layout as a compromise between 8-wheels or full treads. This bizarre drivetrain, thanks to the excellent suspension tuning and novel tire composition, allows the Gadetz to have the cross-country capability of a tracked vehicle, while also having the raw speed of a conventional IFV. With governors disabled, some examples have managed 130km/h (~80mph) on firm ground. Of course, much of this pace is only possible thanks to the Gadetz?s powerful hydrogen fuel cell powertrain, outputting a tremendous 2800hp that can be variably distributed to all 10 wheels.

The second is a series of eight jump jets - four at the back, and four at each corner of the floorpan - enabling the Gadetz to literally leap over substantial hurdles, such as rivers, ditches or hedgehog traps. Each use of the jump jet system consumes a single hydrogen power pack, of which the tank carries about 12 in its standard loadout. This has been judged as more than enough for most mission profiles. The jump jets are an addition unique to the Gadetz, offering it a marked avantage over older Finbari RFVs in that it is less reliant on hover platforms or bridge-layers for traversal.

The third feature, and perhaps the most enduring among the RFVs, is the main armament - a cyclotron electron beam weapon, firing a small chunk of electrons at 99.9% the speed of light. This choice of weapon relieves the Gadetz of the burden of having to carry ammunition, but also takes up nearly the whole turret in exchange (hence the round, flat shape).

The electron beam gun is a technology that the Finbari have perfected, billed as the last word in armor-penetration. While the electron ?projectile? deals little in the way of explosive damage, its effective penetration value of 2500mm of RHA means that there is not a single ground vehicle that is safe from the Gadetz?s gun. Worst of all, thanks to relativistic shortening, the electrons themselves experience time slower and diffuse very slowly, giving the electron beam gun an arbitrarily long firing range. There is simply no escaping once a Gadetz has acquired you.

Additionally, to round out its defensive capabilities, the Gadetz is equipped with a world-beating laser APS with millisecond reaction time, and a thin coating of brittle alloy designed to shatter sabot rounds. All together, the Gadetz makes for a deadly package in a relatively small size, every bit as lethal as the MBTs of the Zir or Crathervans. Its sheer mobility and firepower has allowed it to remain relevant even as other tanks were obsoleted by the radical new Celestial threat.

This is great. The body shape is so sleek. The ATGM on top and the gun mantlet are really nice touches. Along with the square gun. Cool :D

This is basically the Exodia of tanks. R

An incredibly cool vehicle concept, and the capabilities of it are well-explained, which is rare in 'deviant' vehicle designs such as this. Well-earned uprate here
