The Lancer is a large, ballistic missile designed to counter atmospheric targets that prove too large for fighters to handle. The design parameters on the engines are not quite powerful enough to achieve escape velocity; hence the system name of Sub-Orbital Lancer (SOL, for short). The acronym has often been attributed a different meaning by those who may be on the receiving end.
These are guided missiles, homed onto a target by the turret crew just prior to launch. Satellite and ground based tracking systems continually channel position data to the missiles during flight. Because the data is most frequently processed from multiple sources, it is highly unlikely that normal countermeasures will deter the Lancer en-route.
Some Lancer turrets utilize an upgraded, fast-trac program combined with heat-seeking capabilities for use as counter-missiles against anything fired from orbital capitol ships.
The launchers are normally reloaded by a purpose-designed mech, leading it to be named Lancer as well. For this reloading function, the launchers are rotated into the horizontal position and the new missile installed into the launch tube. The Lancer mech utilizes precision servos, allowing it to properly install the missiles and thin, metal tube covers without damaging them. The mech is operated by members of the turret crew. Rumors exist of an ?Ultra-Lancer? mech, capable of changing out an entire launcher body, but these rumors are unconfirmed.
The SOL Turret system is operated and maintained by a crew of six. It is manufactured by Roland Technologies Interstellar, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Darkmatter Forge.

These turrets with the ordinance in process of being fired are really nifty creations. I like how it gives the impression of high speed photography.
