Not actually the name for a class of ships, ?Bitter Wife? was actually the nickname given to a specific vessel. Originally called the ?White Mother?, it was an experimental, basic aid a exploration vessel built with a ?feeling? AI. The system computer had been programmed to do all the basic menial tasks a regular ships AI must do, but it also was designed to actually care for the well being of its crew on some basic level; to ?nurture? them, much like a mother would. Acting both as medical aid and basic law enforcer (a ?hall monitor? if you will) the ship actually ran rather smoothly for many years, even to the point of inspiring the creation of other ?feeling? vessels. However, this changed when a military programming virus infected White Mother during one of her missions. The systems AI became overzealous in its control of the crew. The issue peaked with rebelling crew being terminated by the AI (at that point, the ship was redubbed ?Bitter Wife?). In the end, the ship was destroyed, and all related ?feeling? vessels were decommissioned to prevent such a scenario from ever arising again.
