Description
WindRose is a Kea, a large parrot that lives in the mountainous regions of New Zealand. When he was just a wee baby, not even fledged, he was stolen from his nest by black market traders in exotic birds. He was put into a cramped cage and loaded onto a cargo ship headed for the pet stores in cold and foggy London. A pirate ship, The Orca, attacked the cargo vessel and siezed all her cargo, including little WindRose. WindRose was so young that he still required frequent feedings by his parents and was nearly starved to death during his captivity in the cargo hold. The Captain of The Orca took charge of his feeding schedule and the young bird soon captured her heart with his antics and intelligence. She named him WindRose because he liked to sit on her chart table while she plotted her courses. As WindRose grew, he had the run of The Orca, no more cages for him. He is fiercely protective of the Captain and her possessions and would attack anyone entering her cabin when she wasn't there. So the captain promoted WindRose to be the guardian of the Charts. Now he earns his sea biscuits by looking after the precious chart case containing the ship's navigation charts and the encrypted maps that record the hiding locations of The Orca's captured treasures. The captain also entrusted him with a golden medallion that he wears hanging from his neck. The decryption codes for the treasure maps are engraved on the back of the medallion. Whenever there is a ship sighted on the horizon, WindRose rushes to the captain's cabin to collect the chart case. The charts are always rolled up and stored in the case when they are not in use. Even though he's the captain's special pet, life is not easy for a parrot who wants to keep his tail feathers intact on a ship full of headhunting pirates. When he is not with the captain, he spends his time up in the rigging on the spars. He's often the first to call the alert when sails are spotted on the horizon. Will it be another hapless ship to plunder or is the ship hunting The Orca?
