HISTORY
The Buffalos trace their origins to heavy offroad log trucks designed for working in mountainous terrain. Built like freight trains, these low-tech trucks gave excellent service hauling heavy loads places no other truck could go. Their downfall was their mighty thirst for fuel, eventually leading logging companies to replace them with newer, smaller, more efficient trucks.
After the downfall of civilization, many wandering groups came upon these ancient trucks sitting in derelict scrapyards or abandoned deep in the woods. Most had fuel, and started up as if they had stopped yesterday. Thus were the beginnings of the legendary Buffalo.
DESCRIPTION
Nowadays, these trucks have all had bulletproof glass in some form installed, this being the chief weakness of the stock trucks. Most of them have heavy structural steel plates welded or bolted to the body panels and fuel tanks. This particular example has the entire cab sealed in 2 inches of steel, requiring a hatch to gain entry. The truck?s stock solid rubber agriculture tires are well suited for a combat zone, being able to take an inordinate amount of damage before buckling. The main disadvantages of the vehicle are its high fuel consumption, loud engine, and slow acceleration.
The truck?s big V10 is powerful, but extremely loud. The mufflers on the trucks are invariably rusted out or full of holes, ruling out pretty much any covert operations. The truck is not picky about its fuel. It will run on basically any flammable liquid you put in its tank. The truck of course will go farther using a denser fuel, and less far with lighter fuels. It has a built in centrifuge that separates incoming fuel from dirt and water; This keeps the engine happy, but saps some power and tends to leave a trail of dirty sludge wherever the truck goes.
The heavy winch on the front of the truck is very handy for a variety of uses. The truck usually includes a set of tackle blocks so the winch can be used for hoisting. The 1? steel cable is very heavy and difficult to work with, so using the winch is a 2-man operation at minimum.
The Buffalos are used mostly for scavenging and combat engineering. The truck?s massive weight makes it capable of very high traction force. It is often employed to bring down structures by pulling their walls down or ramming them (if they are small enough). When fitted with a dozer blade, the truck can do some earthwork, though not as quickly as an actual bulldozer would. It serves very well in difficult terrain, being able to ford high water and climb steep grades with ease. The truck?s simple nature makes it easy to maintain; Even with a cab totally destroyed by gunfire, the truck can usually still be made to run a drive. It is said that ?A buffalo never really gets destroyed, it just gets uglier.?
