Description

The Kaliluku are a species of non-segmented worm-like aliens from the semi-tropical, volcanic planet Ricopers-Hinako. These worms spend their days crawling amongst the lava tubes and burrowing through hot, volcanic ash in search of a suitable mate and den in which to lay their eggs. Kaliluku can reach up to 11ft long from the top of their heads to the tip of their tails and range in color from ash grey to black with vibrant red patches of skin along their bodies. They also possess tentacle like gills on the sides of their heads which are used to aid the worms when swimming from island to island as the lava flows cool in order to remain close to volcanic activity. Additionally, they possess thick mouth tentacles that are covered in many millions of microscopic branchings that allow them to filter feed on bacteria and plankton from the surrounding waters and soil of their environment. Their backs are covered in ?hairs? which are actually colonies of extremophile bacteria which are thought to afford the worms an extra degree of insulation, allowing them to live so close to the vents and lava flows. The bacteria in turn, feed off of the thick layers of mucus the worms secrete from their back tentacles as a lubricant and additional insulator, allowing them to slide along the narrow lava tubes with ease. Unlike most worm creatures, the Kaliluku have evolved a complex set of setae to act as arms, allowing them to pull themselves along easily or to manipulate their environments. These extraterrestrials exhibit hermaphroditic traits, producing both eggs and sperm. Once fertilized, the Kaliluku burrow large dens into the hot ash where they deposit hundreds of eggs. Unfortunately, once they finish laying these eggs, the parents die.
