Description

?I expected dirty, but Sentinel was on a whole new level. Rampant lightning storms rocked our shuttles and the thick green haze of the ?atmosphere? engulfed us in a blinding miasma as we made planetfall. If not for our environment suits, we would?ve died long before we stepped off the landing pad. After checking and re-checking each other?s suits what felt like a hundred times over, we disembarked and began the trek into the Kryllion hollows. Although hellish and incompatible with nearly every example of life within the Triangulum, Sentinel was a seemingly ideal candidate for Kryllion colonization. The Moon had been geo-engineered into an impregnable fortress, miles of terrain hollowed out and designed to support vast legions of the toxic insectoids. One could have easily become lost within the depths of the moon. Thankfully the dense fog was extremely reduced within the tunnels and the queen had accounted for our unfamiliarity. With the help of a Praetorian Guard, our escorts guided us through the labyrinthine corridors and chambers, which by this time were bustling with excited and chittering Kryllion. Legions of them walked or scurried along every surface of the walls and ceilings, some even flying high above us. All the while their songs and prayers filled the air. Every step of the way, our scientists conversed with the insects, snapped pictures, recorded, scanned, prodded, and sampled every patch of ooze, bioluminescence, and cultural flair they happened upon. We didn?t know who was more excited; the scientists or Kryllion. Nevertheless, the mood was contagious and some members of the delegation even sang along with the Kryllion, although they utterly butchered the language. Our insectoid friends were beyond gracious though, teaching us the lyrics and pronunciations.?
?Eventually we arrived at our destination, a massive central chamber wrapped in bedrock untold miles below the planet surface. It was no wonder how they evaded the Grox for so long. The inner hive was unlike anything I had ever seen. Nestled deep within the rocky abyss lay a series of concentric mounds and structures like thick plates rising and falling with all manner of spikes and appendages sprouting every which way. Technology and biology melded harmoniously under the soft yellow and green glows of bioluminescence. It was unsurpassingly alien, yet familiar all the same. What space was available was occupied by Kryllion and unhatched eggs. The hive functioned like a single, fluid organism. Perfectly in tuned with itself and efficient to the core. At the center of all activity stood the queen. With a single wave of her hand, the insects parted like a chitonous wave, clearing a path for us. She greeted us warmly, beckoning for us to come forward. Once we took our places, the ceremony began.?
