Description

According to the Watcher Astronomicon, the Vacuous Star Apostles, are a Servitor race that serve and worship the Elder God, Formless Oedon. Like the other ?Children of Oedon?, their origins as a race are practically unknown, only that they took in the blood of Oedon and ascended as a hyper-evolved species.

Physically, the Star Apostles have features of both arthropoids and fungoids, with a large pill-like body covered in strange flowery stalks and a concentrated patch of white growths on the dorsal side. They have several pairs of legs underneath at no discernable segments or connecting sections. Their heads are much smaller than their 6 meter long bodies, with an inconsistent latticed structure covering the surface with beady eyes scattered between the openings. This eventually tapers to a small radula-like mouth which seems vestigial since the Star Apostles do not eat nor speak using it.

The Star Apostles? main role within the Children of Oedon is to act as an avatar or medium to transfer arcane knowledge to lesser species who partake of Oedon?s blood and wish to join their higher evolution. The Star Apostles themselves seem to be unintelligent, behaving in an almost instinctual manner when confronted with external stimuli such as physical attacks or bodily harm. They appear to be indifferent to non-direct threats such as temperature changes, but when they recognize an active threat to their bodies, such as an attacker, they will not hesitate to summon forth their servants, the Nightmare Disciples, as guards. If that proves insufficient to dispel the threat, the Star Apostles are able to conjure forth attacks in the form of crystalized arcane energies that do not match any wavelengths previously measured by the Watchers.

Most of the information gathered on the Star Apostles were from survivors of the Eldritch Wars who fled their planets as they became either indoctrinated or addicted to the blood and worship of Oedon in their desperation to survive the Eldritch Wars. The most curious aspect of the Star Apostles, is that they appear to have no baseline species from which they evolved. While other Servitors like the Amygdhala have mostly retained their species? physiological traits after evolving through Oedon?s blood, the Star Apostles appear to be a unique physiological transformation that happens to particularly insightful members of any species that are highly resonant with the blood of Oedon. This appears to be the only method the Star Apostles have to produce more of their numbers. Combined with the extremely low rate of success for any species to successfully evolve with the imbibing of Oedon?s Blood, the Star Apostles are in exceedingly low numbers, so they normally reside within the same ethereal dimension as the Nightmare Disciples for their own safety.
