On our way to this ?witch?, we passed dozens of these husks. The clean-up services only cleared them if someone bothered to pay, which was only done as an act of charity whenever a top-layer magnate messed up and needed to improve their image. Apparently they had behaved nice up there recently, as the husks had really piled up. Anyway..

Something about seeing that street just.. I don?t know.. activated something. I don?t know why, I had seen that same scene a hundred times by then. Maybe that was it. For years I had worked there as a knight, and nothing had changed. The Golden Court had gotten richer, sure, but the citizens still shriveled up into nothing beneath it all.

In all my efforts, trying my best to ignore the small injustices for the greater good, I?d realized that it had not amounted to anything meaningful. I?d made no difference.?

The Captain-Knight took a pause, observing me. Had I revealed too much? I don?t really know what came over me, pouring so many details. I suppose I had needed to vent for a good while now. I only now noticed how hot I had gotten, exhausted even, recounting that tale. Now, it was up to him to decide my fate.

?Yes. You actually have an actual enemy that actively seeks to harm the Queendom and its citizens. If all the knights of Decros were to fall one day, there may be a brief surge of chaos, but ultimately the crime capital of the Queendom would remain as it is. Someone would make sure the trade kept going, and people would keep withering either way.

But should the Swarmguard fall, all of the Queendom itself would be in peril. You are the ones actually protecting people, your effect on our worlds validated each moment the Queendom still stands free of The Brood. If you would let me fight alongside you, then I would know that my existence contributes to something... meaningful.

The Captain-Knight sighed, letting a few moments pass as silence took over the chamber as he observed the document that had my information on it. He then rose from his sitting stone and spoke:
